WMATA Riders Fight Back

The WMATA Board is proposing system wide service cuts and fare increases.  Along with the service cuts, future plans for adding more service like rapid bus routes through out the region, are on hold.  If we allow these changes to pass, thousands of people will be negatively affected.  Many will loss jobs and miss important medical and legal appointments.  These changes will hurt communities-of-color and the working poor the most.  However, everyone will be harmed by facing more traffic, environmental damage and slower economic growth.

All across the nation, transit riders have become a powerful force for more and better public transportation.

This will be the first meeting of riders in the DC region to form a riders organization to fight back against the cuts and to plan how we can win more transit in the future.
